In addition to its important functionality, the nose is also a key aesthetic unit of the face, especially in profile. Ideally the nose should be symmetrical, thin, and free of lumps or bumps. Many young patients seek surgical rhinoplasty to address the bridge of their nose (dorsal hump) or to thin and elevate the nasal tip. Though surgery is the gold standard, it is expensive, may cause scarring, and entails a prolonged recovery time. With the advent of injectable agents, non-surgical nasal re-shaping has become quite popular over the past decade, as it is much less expensive, has no down time, and can be performed in 15-20 minutes in the office. The result is instantaneous and may last up to a year.
It is important, however, to seek a highly skilled and Board-Certified surgeon (Plastic, Oculoplastic, or ENT) with exquisite knowledge of facial anatomy to perform a liquid rhinoplasty as the nose not only has a rich blood supply but it also communicates (or anastomoses) with the ophthalmic artery that supplies the eye (see diagram). Having performed many tear duct surgeries between the eye and nose (dacryocystorhinostomies) as a fellowship-trained oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Gupta has advanced knowledge and experience in this area. In her hands, one can feel safe knowing that the treatment will be performed in a precise, safe, and conservative manner.
A liquid rhinoplasty employs a filler like Restylane to do the following:
- Smooth out a dorsal hump or other minor bumps
- Lift and sculpt the nasal tip (Botox also helps with this)
- Add volume to straighten the nose
